Marija Kovacevic, born in Serbia, began playing violin at age seven. She was trained from the age of 10 at The School for Musically Gifted Children, one of three schools in Europe exclusively devoted to the teaching of stringed instruments. During this time, Marija graduated summa cum laude and won multiple musical festival awards for solo and ensemble playing. She earned her master’s degree in 2008 from the University for Music Arts in Belgrade, where she studied under Fern Raskovic, Thomas Hagen and Yuri Bashmet.
Marija has continued to pursue the performing arts in the US, and enjoys playing classical, tango and improvised music at places like the MoMA, Lincoln Center, American Museum of Natural History, Ivy Brown Gallery, La MaMa Theater, The Cave and many more. She currently resides in New York City, where she regularly performs with the 143 Quartet, Astoria Tango Orchestra, Aces of Rhythm and Million Underscores.
